It's the most Baba Yaga-ish thing out there! I love how you conveyed an atmosphere that is more about mystery and magic and legends or myth rather than plain scary. XD I guess I naturally revert to the days when parents threatened naughty children with Baba Yaga stories XD But you're right that this character is also about wisdom and honesty.
I adore this. I admire the way you choose subtle colour changes to achieve depth/shadow etc. I have a really hard time with my colour/value balancing, and you have it mastered! Also- your choice of subject matter is always SO interesting! I find a lot of artists tend to stick with the same ol thing often, but you never cease to impress me! Thanks for sharing your work!
Thank you for asking! I chose to include those words because in some of the Baba Yaga stories I've read they seem to be about wisdom, kindness and being truthful. In some stories adventurers look for Baba Yaga because she is very wise, but if they are not kind and truthful they are burnt to a crisp or suffer some other terrible fate. I like some of the Baba Yaga stories because she's not just an old witch in the woods who is sometimes quite scary. I like that she values wisdom, kindness and truth.
I was expecting a detailed reply from you.) I appreciate your way of thinking a lot. Lots of Russians have already forgotten that Baba Yaga has been always a wise woman accociated with Mother-Earth. She has always been admonishing and even gave a live. Some fairy tales by our writers (such as Pushkin, Tolstoy) gave the biggest reflection to her character. She is a bad character, actually, in their stories. She is usually defeated or deceived. Good characters mostly avoid the death from her hands with some trick. Thank you for such a great art and also for the nice understanding of russian folklore.
